One of the most important requirements of adoption is your home study. The home study process allows me, as your social worker, to become familiar with your family and to gather an understanding of your desire and ability to provide a permanent, loving, home through adoption. I will visit with you in your home, gather background information, collect required paperwork, conduct suitability checks, etc. and provide a written report for the court. I don't expect your home to be immaculate, and I don't expect you to be perfect. My goal is to determine if you are physically, emotionally, and financially able to provide a home for the child you wish to adopt in which all of their needs can be met. Think of this as your opportunity to paint a picture for your adoption judge of what kind of environment and life you are able to provide for a child and how you plan to raise them. When we begin this process, I will provide you with a checklist of everything that is required so you can begin gathering the information and documents that I will need. I will also provide a list of areas that will be explored during personal interviews. If you have decided to move forward with the home study process, you are probably eager for it to be complete. My goal is to complete your home study thoroughly and timely and to provide support and open communication as we go. I will also complete home studies for custody cases upon request.
I look forward to working with you!
